What we cover on the course
Being calm and relaxed during labour is the single most important thing for a mother to be able to do. It helps the body produce oxytocin and natural endorphins, which are many times stronger than morphine. During the classes we do many relaxation exercises and teach you how to do these on your own.
Self hypnosis techniques
Hypnosis can be a scary word for some! Conjuring images of someone on stage doing stupid things. The course teaches you that hypnosis is not a negative thing. It is a state we all go into several times in the day. It is in this state that the unconscious mind is more receptive to new ideas and suggestions. You will learn how to induce this state in yourself and how to input new and positive thoughts about birth.
One of the biggest contributors to pain during childbirth is the fear of the pain. We’re continually told how painful and awful birth is going to be. In the course you will practice fear release exercises and build confidence in your body. Say goodbye to those culturally ingrained negative thoughts about birth! Without fear your body can stay calm and relaxed, this will enable it to work the way it is supposed to during birth.
Breathing & visualisation techniques
Where the mind leads the body follows. During labour you want your mind and body to be working in sync. You will learn powerful visualisations and breathing techniques to help you achieve this.
Understanding how the labouring body works
Learning how the body works during labour illustrates how effective hypnobirthing can be. It highlights the scientific logic of hypnobirthing. Knowing how the body works during labour means you can work with your body not against it.
Knowledge is power. My classes give you an in depth antenatal education. We cover writing birth plans, place of birth, pain relief and what happens throughout birth. We equip you with questions to ask should you be offered medical interventions. These help you ensure what you are being offered what is best for you and your baby. Knowing your options and what you can do is empowering to both the mother and birth partner/father.
The role of your birthing partner
Often during pregnancy the father can feel left out. Not so with hypnobirthing! Hypnobirthing fathers play an active and important role. They learn relaxation techniques with you so can help keep you calm during labour. They understand your desires for your birth so can be your voice when you’re 'in the zone' during labour. They’ll also be as informed as you are about your options so you can both make the best decisions for your birth.
NB whilst it’s beneficial having a birth partner, you can successfully do it on your own
